How to Properly Pack and Ship Your Luxury Watch
Luxury watches are built to last, but they are still precision instruments that require careful packing to ensure they arrive safely. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the “two-box method”, the most secure way to ship a watch.
What You’ll Need
✅ Two sturdy boxes—one at least 2 inches smaller per side than the other
✅ Bubble wrap for cushioning
✅ Shipping tape for secure sealing
For reference, we’re using a 10x10x10-inch box and a 12x12x12-inch box, but adjust the sizes based on your watch’s packaging.
Before Packing—Protect Yourself
🔹 Record a video of the watch functioning properly before packing. Capture the date wheel, chronograph, winding, and any complications to document its condition.
🔹 Film the packing process—this serves as proof in the rare event of damage or loss, making insurance claims easier.
Step 1: Secure the Watch Inside Its Box
📌 Inspect your watch box. If there’s any chance the watch could shift or fall out, place a small piece of bubble wrap inside as a wedge to hold it securely in place.
Step 2: Pack the Inner Box
1️⃣ Reinforce the bottom of the smaller box with three strips of tape, staggering them across the seam.
2️⃣ Wrap the watch box completely in bubble wrap, securing the loose ends with tape so it stays in place.
3️⃣ Line the bottom and sides of the inner box with bubble wrap.
4️⃣ Place the wrapped watch box inside and fill any remaining space with more bubble wrap—but don’t overfill.
🔹 Pro Tip: Use bubble wrap instead of packing peanuts—it’s less messy and offers better protection.
5️⃣ Seal the inner box with three more strips of tape, staggering them along the seal.
6️⃣ If your shipping provider requires an inner label, affix it to this box now.
Step 3: Pack the Outer Box
1️⃣ Reinforce the bottom of the larger box with three staggered strips of tape for added strength.
2️⃣ Line the bottom and sides with bubble wrap.
3️⃣ Place the inner box inside and fill the remaining space with bubble wrap—again, avoid overfilling.
4️⃣ Seal the outer box with three strips of tape, then affix your shipping label securely.
📌 Important: Cover the entire label with clear shipping tape to prevent water damage. However, do not place the label across the seam—if the box opens during transit, you don’t want the label to tear.
🚫 Never write “FRAGILE” or indicate the contents of the package. The packaging method itself is your best protection against both damage and theft.
